Athena Project Meeting for Victims/Survivors

We are hosting a zoom meeting for victims/survivors on Monday December 12th at 6pm to discuss our decision to file a lawsuit against Sonoma Academy.

Dear Athena Project Community,

As we shared in our update on Thursday, the members of the Athena Project are filing claims against Sonoma Academy. We are inviting other victims/survivors of faculty or staff misconduct at Sonoma Academy to consider joining us in filing a claim at this time.

In particular, we are urging anyone who was 26 or older on January 1st, 2020 to contact us or our attorney Larry King immediately to discuss the possibility of filing a claim. We have been advised that people in this group who do not file a claim by December 31st, 2022, could run the risk of the statute of limitations running and barring their claims.

We are aware that it can be extremely stressful to contemplate taking legal action. Many questions arise:

  • How does the process work?
  • What would be expected of me?
  • How long could this take?
  • What might I achieve by filing a claim?

To answer these questions, and to provide space to process this proposed course of action, the Athena Project will be holding a virtual meeting on Monday, December 12 at 6:00 pm PST for victims/survivors.  Our attorney, Larry King, will be present and available to answer any questions related to the legal process. Several members of the Athena Project will also be available to answer any questions about our work and this decision.

Whether you decide to file a claim or not, we will continue to respect, affirm and support the choices you make.

Due to the sensitivity of this topic, we ask that only survivors of faculty or staff misconduct at Sonoma Academy attend this meeting. Please dm us at @the_athenaproject on Instagram or email us at info@theathenaproject.co for the Zoom link.

As always, our expectation is that everyone in attendance will be respectful and supportive of one another. Additionally, we expect that the words and the identities of those in attendance will be kept completely confidential.

If you would prefer to have a one-on-one conversation, you can reach out to any of the members of the Athena Project individually. You can also speak confidentially with our attorney, Larry King.
